Impermanence, Day 3
Impermanence, Day 3
I started the Impermanence Project to remind myself that nothing lasts forever- the bad or the good. Both of which or subjective, and what you make them. In the Impermanence Project, I use the same 56 by 56 inch canvas to create a new painting over and over again- one on top of the other. The only version of the painting exists here, as a 1/1 on this blockchain. Every painting is a reflection of myself, or something that I'm going through. There has been a lot of change in my world recently, and so this project is to remind me to go with the flow.
The Impermanence Project is also to bring up how we speak about the blockchain- this forever & everlasting thing. But, what about if the internet dies, or the power grids go out, or one day in the future the blockchain becomes obsolete- kind of like how pigeons used to be a huge form of communication, but today they're thought of as a dirty city bird. The point is- everything changes. So, in the infancy of blockchain- how will it evolve, and where do we draw the line of impermanence with the internet?
This painting helped me work through some angst and some rage. When we speak of revolution, what do you think of? I think of true expression. Of love. Of rage. Of protection, primal protection. I think of the power of the womb. I think of artists. Revolting to me means allowing yourself to be. In a world that will try to force you to shift yourself outside of this "be," when you are fully in your existence (allowing yourself to "be" in every moment)- that is a revolution.
My Elder Mother J said to me once "The system wants the artists to think they are sick, that they are crazy, that they are broken- because they are the catalysts of change. In a system that is built off of profit, and does not profit from change, the artists are made to believe there is something wrong with them." So, then let me be crazy- if that's how people see me as an artist. Let me be a revolutionary if that's what this system defines me as. Let me be the villain to the system that continues to supress the artist's voice. Let me be.
When you actively exist in a way that the system (built on profit) does not profit from, that is a revolution in itself.
May this piece bring it's owner courage, strength, guts, and freedom to be as they are. Your power is yours, and yours alone. Your power does not come from a system, although you can use your power in a system. May this piece bring forward the truth of it's owner to be expressed in the highest way.
